Why Psychological Assessments?

Psychological assessments are used with missionaries for many purposes. Assessments are provided to help missionaries gain insight about themselves and their effectiveness in managing the challenges in cross-culture work situations. The assessments listed here have been shown to provide substantial help to the cross-culture worker. Psychological assessments should be administered only by qualified providers.

Effective Assessments

Dr. Walls is qualified to provide Psychological Assessments for missionaries to enable them to work more effectively in their cross-culture calling. The following assessments have been found to be valuable in maintaining missionary health and effectiveness:

  • The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2)
    This is the most widely used and researched clinical assessment tool used by mental health professionals.
  • The Myers-Briggs Temperament Indicator (MBTI)
    This personality preferences inventory provides insights about ourselves and how we prefer to communicate, make decisions, and work.
  • The Sixteen Personality Factors (16PF)
    The 16PF Questionnaire assesses the whole domain of human personality, for example, by measuring levels such as, emotional stability, openness to change, tension, and sensitivity.
  • The California Personality Inventory (CPI260)
    This inventory can help people gain an understanding of their personal and work-related characteristics, motivations, and thinking styles, as well as how they interact with others.
  • Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI)
    This assessment is a conflict management tool for understanding and resolving conflict using five different conflict management styles.
  • Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior (FIRO-B)
    This instrument is a powerful tool that assesses how someone’s personal needs affect one’s behavior towards other people.
  • Team Performance Inventory (TPI)
    This inventory provides the team with information that allows the team members to know what they do well and what they need to improve. It identifies the stage of team development and the behaviors needed by the team and team leader for continued growth.
